Made from the fibre of the konjac plant (glucomannan), the konjac sponge is one of the gentlest ways to cleanse and exfoliate. It suits even sensitive skin and needs nothing but water. Here is how to use one.
Before you start
A new konjac sponge is hard and brittle when dry. Soak it in warm water for a few minutes until it swells and turns soft and jelly-like. Squeeze out the excess gently — never wring or twist it.
Cleansing with a konjac sponge
- Wet your face with warm water.
- Optionally add a pea-sized amount of a mild cleanser to the sponge (plain water works too).
- Massage in small, gentle circles, paying attention to the nose, chin and hairline where pores clog.
- Rinse your face and the sponge thoroughly.
Is a konjac sponge good for your face?
Yes — the soft fibre lifts away dead skin, oil and impurities without the micro-scratches of harsher scrubs. Because it is so mild, most people can use a konjac sponge daily, morning and night.
A few tips
- Always use it wet and soft; never rub a dry sponge on your skin.
- Let it swell fully before each use.
- Replace it every four to six weeks.
