1946｜A Handful of SHURO Fibers & a Big Idea
Post-war Japan, Wakayama Prefecture.
In a small workshop in Kainan City, we began crafting tawashi scrubbers from pure windmill palm fibers (shuro 棕櫚) under the trademark “aisen 愛染”. Our goal was simple yet bold: make the finest cleaning tools on the market and continue inventing new value for everyday life.
〇But why Kainan?
Because the town itself grew alongside the windmill palm industry—an origin story that dates back over 1,200 years, when monk Kūkai is said to have brought palm trees to Japan.Over the centuries, Kainan evolved into Japan’s leading hub for shuro cultivation and craftwork, eventually becoming a center for household goods innovation.
Seventy-nine years later, that founding spirit still guides us.
Every brush, sponge, and microfiber cloth we ship begins with the same question our founders asked in 1946:“How can we make “cleaning” easier, and a little more enjoyable?”
🧠 Fun fact: The very first aisen tawashi was twisted by hand, one fiber at a time.
Today we serve over 30 countries, but quality is still handcrafted into every product.

1946年｜一握りの棕櫚繊維と、大きな想いから始まった物語
戦後まもない和歌山県・海南市の小さな工房。
私たちは、「aisen（愛染）」の商標のもと、棕櫚（しゅろ）繊維を使ったたわしの製造をスタートさせました。 目指したのは、最高品質の清掃道具をつくり、暮らしに新たな価値を創造し続けるというシンプルかつ挑戦的なミッションでした。
〇なぜ海南市だったのか？
それは、1200年以上前に空海が中国から棕櫚を持ち帰ったことが起源とされ、やがて棕櫚産業とともに発展してきた町だからです。 海南は長い年月をかけて、日本有数の棕櫚製品の産地となり、日用品のまちとしてその名を広めていきました。
そして創業から79年。 私たちは今も、創業者が1946年に抱いた問いを胸に、製品をつくり続けています。 「どうすれば”キレイ”をもっと簡単に、そして少し楽しくなるのか？」
🧠 豆知識： 初代「愛染たわし」は、1本ずつ手でねじりながら作られていました。
いまでは30カ国以上に製品を届けていますが、手仕事の精神は今もすべての製品に息づいています。
