Amazing drainage! Set it down and 90 %+ of the water disappears!! Blog

Keeping the kitchen spotless with minimal effort—that’s my mantra. So, welcome to the first installment of my “Taking On Aisen’s Kitchen Sponges” series. Today’s challenger: the boldly named Geki-Kire Kitchen Sponge.

The package alone makes a statement—black background, huge lettering—very “tough-guy” vibes. It boasts “ultra-fast drainage,” and I’m ready to put that to the test.

First impressions & size
Side-by-side with my trusty (and ancient) iPhone 6 S, the sponge is a touch wider and a bit shorter. In hand it feels firm—squeeze and you’ll need some grip strength—but that stiffness promises durability. The open, coarse mesh looks built for quick drying.

The sponge is dual-layered: a blue side loaded with fine abrasive particles for mineral stains and baked-on grime, and a white side that’s gentler on plastics and everyday dishes. One tool, two jobs—nice.

Drainage test
I set the sponge on a rack over a tray, then poured 100 ml of water straight onto it. Water shot through instantly; five minutes later, the tray held just over 90 ml, and the sponge dribbled only a few drops when wrung out. “Ultra-fast” isn’t marketing fluff.

Lather test
Because the mesh holds less water, it takes a bit of kneading—seven squeezes before bubbles appear, ten for a usable foam. Not a mountain of micro-bubbles; I’d rate lathering 6/10. But let’s see how it performs in real life.

Tea-stained mug
Once I started scrubbing, foam multiplied and coverage was fine. The sponge folded to reach the lip easily, and ordinary dish soap alone erased every brown stain. Impressive.

The curry-udon aftermath
Next up: two bowls, cutlery and a cup coated in last night’s curry, rinsed only with cold water. White side first—no extra soap added. The sponge’s firmness let me press hard; foam held up; and everything came out grease-free. Even better, the sponge itself rinsed clean after four or five squeezes under the tap—no lingering curry yellow.

Punching strainer
Those tiny perforations usually shred soft sponges. This one’s rigid enough to glide over without snagging, clearing trapped noodles and restoring the steel’s shine.

Final boss: burnt curry pot
Blue side engaged. Baked-on bits lifted quickly, but a stubborn oil stain needed a dash of cleanser. A few vigorous passes and the base looked mirror-bright. Mission accomplished.

Verdict

  • Stellar drainage—dries in no time, so less slime and bacteria.
  • Two-in-one surfaces handle cookware and tableware alike.
  • Feels more like a thin scrub brush than a cushy sponge; foam lovers may miss the fluffy suds.

For me, it’s officially a keeper. Even after battling curry and burnt crust, the blue still pops and the sponge stands tall in its holder, bone-dry within minutes. If you hate slimy sponges and want something that stays clean as hard as it cleans, give this one a spin.
